Likewise, in this representation, we can notice the pathway of air from the trachea to the smallest bronchioles.

First of all, the trachea is the main airway that transports air from the larynx toward the lungs. This tubular structure contains rings of cartilage that help keep the airway open. Therefore, air can move efficiently into the lower respiratory passages.

Afterwards, the trachea divides into two primary bronchi, one leading to the right lung and the other to the left lung. These bronchi represent the first branches of the respiratory system within the lungs. Moreover, their walls contain cartilage and smooth muscle that help maintain airway stability.

Subsequently, each primary bronchus divides into secondary bronchi, also known as lobar bronchi. These airways carry air to the different lobes of the lungs. As a result, air can be distributed throughout the lung structure.

Furthermore, the secondary bronchi continue to branch into tertiary bronchi and later into bronchioles. Because of this progressive branching, air can reach every region of lung tissue.

On the other hand, bronchioles are the smallest airways of the respiratory system. Unlike bronchi, bronchioles do not contain cartilage in their walls. Instead, they are surrounded by smooth muscle, which helps regulate airflow within the lungs.

Finally, bronchioles end in the alveoli, where oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange occurs. Consequently, understanding the pulmonary bronchial branching and respiratory airways helps explain how air is distributed within the lungs during breathing.
