The stomach, pancreas, and spleen are important organs involved in the digestive system and the immune system. First, these organs are located in the upper abdomen and work together to maintain the body’s balance. In addition, each organ performs specific functions related to digestion, metabolism, and immune defense.
The stomach is a muscular sac-shaped organ located between the esophagus and the small intestine. Its main function is to begin the digestion of food. To do this, it mixes food with gastric juices containing gastric acid and digestive enzymes. As a result, food is transformed into a semi-liquid substance called chyme.
Afterward, the chyme passes into the small intestine, where digestion continues. Meanwhile, the pancreas is located behind the stomach and performs both digestive and endocrine functions.
First, the pancreas produces digestive enzymes that help break down proteins, fats, and carbohydrates in the small intestine. In addition, this organ produces hormones such as insulin and glucagon, which regulate blood glucose levels.
On the other hand, the spleen is located on the left side of the abdomen near the stomach. Although it mainly belongs to the immune system, it also participates in blood filtration.
The spleen removes old red blood cells and helps fight microorganisms that enter the body. Likewise, it stores immune cells that contribute to the body’s defense.
In conclusion, the stomach, pancreas, and spleen work together in complementary ways. While the stomach begins digestion, the pancreas regulates digestive and metabolic processes, and the spleen supports immune defense.
