Alveoli and bronchioles are essential structures of the respiratory system. First, they allow oxygen to enter the blood. In addition, they help remove carbon dioxide from the body.

Bronchioles are small branches of the bronchi located inside the lungs. As they divide, they become progressively narrower. Therefore, they guide the airflow to the areas where gas exchange occurs.

At the ends of the bronchioles are the alveoli. These are tiny air sacs with very thin walls. Moreover, they are surrounded by a network of blood capillaries.

Because of this structure, gas exchange occurs efficiently. First, inhaled air reaches the alveoli. Then, oxygen passes through the thin alveolar walls into the capillaries.

Meanwhile, carbon dioxide moves from the blood into the alveoli. Afterward, this gas leaves the body during exhalation.

The capillaries play a crucial role in this process. On one hand, they bring blood with low oxygen from the heart. On the other hand, they return blood rich in oxygen to the rest of the body.

Furthermore, the lungs contain millions of alveoli, which increases the surface area available for gas exchange. As a result, the body can obtain enough oxygen for its vital functions.

Likewise, the bronchioles distribute air throughout the lungs. In this way, each lung region participates in the breathing process.

In conclusion, bronchioles and alveoli work together to maintain respiration. Thanks to their structure and function, the body can obtain oxygen and eliminate carbon dioxide.
