Likewise, the liver plays a key role in detoxification. For example, it filters toxins, medications, and waste products from the blood.

Furthermore, the liver stores glycogen, vitamins, and minerals, which serve as important reserves for the body. In this way, it contributes to maintaining metabolic balance.

In addition, the liver receives blood through the hepatic portal vein and the hepatic artery. This blood supply allows the liver to process nutrients absorbed from the digestive system.
