Inside these lobules are the alveoli, where breast milk is produced. In this way, these small glandular units allow milk secretion.

Afterwards, the milk produced in the alveoli moves into the lactiferous ducts. These ducts function as channels that transport milk toward the nipple. As a result, the milk can exit the breast during breastfeeding.

Likewise, the function of the mammary glands is regulated by several hormones. For example, prolactin stimulates milk production. On the other hand, oxytocin helps release milk through the ducts. Thanks to the coordinated action of these hormones, the breastfeeding process occurs efficiently.

In addition to glandular tissue, female breasts also contain adipose tissue. This fatty tissue influences the size and shape of the breasts. Moreover, it provides protection and support for the internal breast structures.

Furthermore, the physiology of female breasts changes during different stages of life. For instance, during puberty, breast tissue begins to develop. Similarly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, mammary gland activity increases.
