First of all, the respiratory system is composed of several organs and passages that allow air to enter and leave the body. Therefore, this system is essential for gas exchange and for maintaining the body’s oxygen balance.

The trachea is one of the main airways of the respiratory system. This tubular structure connects the larynx with the bronchi. In addition, its cartilaginous rings help keep the airway open, allowing air to move efficiently toward the lungs.

Afterwards, the trachea divides into two primary bronchi, one for each lung. Subsequently, these bronchi branch into smaller airways known as bronchioles. As a result, air can be distributed throughout the lung tissue.

On the other hand, the lungs are the primary organs of the respiratory system. They are located inside the thoracic cavity and are protected by the rib cage. Moreover, the lungs contain millions of alveoli, where oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange takes place.

Furthermore, the diaphragm plays a crucial role in breathing. This muscle, located below the lungs, actively participates in respiratory movements. During inhalation, the diaphragm contracts and moves downward. Consequently, the thoracic cavity expands and allows air to enter the lungs.

During exhalation, however, the diaphragm relaxes and moves upward. As a result, air is pushed out of the lungs. Finally, understanding the respiratory system is essential for studying how the body obtains oxygen and removes carbon dioxide.
