The Basal Ganglia – these are a collection of very important brain structures that do a pretty neat job of helping us move around and stay in control of our muscles. First off, they’ve got that prime real estate on the brain right next to the thalamus on either side – a pretty central spot.
They also include the striatum and the globus pallidus – two other key players in all of this. So, it’s no surprise that theyre super important for controlling our movements.

But that’s not all – the basal ganglia also play a huge role in helping us plan out our movements in advance. They really help us fine-tune our muscle movements so theyre nice and smooth. Which in turn helps us get a more precise and coordinated result. Plus, they help us cut back on accidental movements that can really mess with our motor skills.

On the flip side, theyre also really good at helping us figure out the best way to stand up and change positions without losing our balance. This way, we can stay upright and steady
