Finally, the outermost layer is the serosa or adventitia, depending on the region of the digestive tract. This layer consists of connective tissue and protects digestive organs while allowing smooth movement within the abdominal cavity.
Furthermore, all these layers work together to ensure the proper functioning of the digestive system. While the mucosa is responsible for digestion and absorption, the submucosa regulates blood supply and nerve control.
